A facelift is a cosmetic operation that is designed torejuvenate the face and neck, by removing facial wrinkles and elevating loose and sagging skin, muscle and fat of the face and neck. The operation is performed through incisions hidden in the hair of the temple region, the natural crease in front of the ear, and the skin and scalp behind the ear. An additional incision may occasionally be placed beneath the chin.
Excess skin is removed, and the facial and neck muscles are tightened underneath, in order to recreate a natural, more youthful appearance. The operation may be combined with other facial procedures, such as eyelid enhancement, browlift surgery, facial dermabrasion or chemical peels.
